Dr. Lisa Lefebvre

Dr. Lisa Lefebvre is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) and Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She completed her fellowship in Addiction Medicine and her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Toronto. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine and a Certificant of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine. She also holds a Certificate of Added in Competence in Addiction Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada and is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care as having a focused practice in Addiction Medicine. She is also a certified Medical Review Officer (MRO), a toxicology-related designation.

Dr. Lisa Lefebvre has over 12 years experience in the evaluation and treatment of safety sensitive workers and has also served as an expert witness before various professional bodies. She regularly teaches medical residents and fellows as well as Pharmacists. She is Co-Chair of the Implementation Group for the Practicing Well program at the Ontario College of Family Practice, which provides support and education for family physicians in treating patients with pain, addiction and mental health problems. She is the immediate past Chair of the Education Committee of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine and served for many years as Program Director of the CAMH Addiction Medicine Fellowship and Medical Head of Addiction Medicine Services. Dr. Lefebvre currently serves as Associate Medical Director of the Ontario Medical Association Physician Health Program.

Dr. Chris Cavacuiti

Addiction Medicine Physician

Dr. Chris Cavacuiti has an extensive background in addiction medicine and inner city health. Before founding trueNorth Medical Centres in 2013, he worked as a staff physician at St. Michael’s Hospital, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, the Casey House Aids Hospice, and the Seaton House Homeless Shelter. His clinical research and advocacy work focuses on addiction medicine, hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS treatment and care, LGBTQ+ community, and Indigenous peoples’ health and wellness.

He is also on the teaching and research faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) at the University of Toronto. He has been certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM). He has also received his Focused Practice Designation in Addiction Medicine from the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) and his Certificate of Added Competence in Addiction Medicine from the Canadian College of Family Physicians.

Dr. Cavacuiti is an elected member of several committees including the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Publications Council and the OMA Section on Addiction Medicine.

He was the lead editor of the 2012 American Society of Addiction Medicine textbook titled Principles of Addiction Medicine: The Essentials. He is also the author of the handbooks Suboxone: A Handbook for Patients and Opioid Use Disorder: A Handbook for Families.

 
 

Dr. Michelle Klaiman

Addiction Medicine Physician

Dr. Michelle Klaiman is an addiction and emergency medicine staff physician at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. In addition, she practices addiction medicine at True North Medical. Dr. Klaiman has extensive experience in the evaluation and treatment of safety sensitive workers. Leadership roles at St. Michael's Hospital include those in undergraduate education, physician wellness, and equity, diversity and inclusion. Her robust research portfolio aims to improve the care of those presenting to the emergency department with alcohol and substance related issues.

Dr. Klaiman is an assistant professor and award winning clinician teacher with the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is a co-author of the CAEP Position Statement: Emergency Department Management of People with Opioid Use Disorder and the Health Quality Ontario Quality Standard on Opioid Use Disorder. Dr. Klaiman lectures and podcasts internationally on various topics related to addiction medicine. She completed her FRCPC(EM) residency at the University of Toronto and an Addiction Medicine Fellowship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She is certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM).
