Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is IME@Home?

IME@Home is a telemedicine-based health care service, connecting people all across Ontario to expert physicians experienced in conducting independent Addiction Medicine evaluations. The elimination of the need for the examiner or examinee to travel to a clinic location saves both time and money, resulting in a more cost-efficient IME experience for all parties.

+ What services are offered?

IME@Home offers independent Addiction Medicine evaluations conducted via telemedicine at the request of a third party.

+ How does this service work?

We use a secure telemedicine platform to schedule e-consultations between an examinee and a SummitIME physician. This confidential appointment — similar to a in-office health care appointment — will be between you and the physician. The examinee is able to connect to the appointment from a location of their choosing, be it their home or office or another private location.

+ Is this service free of charge?

No. IME fees vary depending upon the complexity of the case. For complex cases, SummitIME may charge higher fees with the pre-approval of the referral source. SummitIME will provide an estimate of the fee for an upcoming examination based on the factors involved for a specific case, please contact us for our current Fee Schedule.

+ Who is eligible?

Any Ontario resident who is referred by a third party is eligible for SummitIME services; please note all referrals are subject to approval, and that IME services are not covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan).

+ What are the requirements?

You must have a:

  • secure internet access and connection

  • valid email address

  • smart phone OR computer, with audio and video capabilities (i.e. webcam and microphone)

+ Is this service age-restricted?

Yes. IME@Home only provides consultations for adults aged 18 and over.

+ How do I make a referral to SummitIME?

Contact Us in order to register yourself or the examinee for this service. A physician will contact you directly to review how a SummitIME can meet your organization’s needs, and go over the fee schedule and other important details. If the decision is made to move forward with the IME, the physician will then connect you with SummitIME’s administrator. The administrator will coordinate with you and the examinee to schedule the interview and laboratory appointments.

+ How do I register and schedule an appointment?

Once your referral to SummitIME has been accepted, the SummitIME administrator will connect with you to schedule the interview and laboratory appointments. The telephone number you will be contacted from will show up as “No Caller ID” — double check your telephone settings in order to allow such calls to be received and answered. The administrator will also set a time with you to test the software prior to your scheduled appointment.

+ Will I still need to visit a clinic?

Even if you qualify for IME@Home service, you may still need to visit a clinic or laboratory facility for some procedures, such as completing blood work and drug testing.

+ Need assistance?

If you have any questions or face trouble with any part of the IME@Home process, please email us at summit@caselmedical.com. The clinical administrator will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
